Goodreads Kindle Integration
Did you know you can get goodreads and kindle to sync? This makes it easy to review books (both on Amazon and goodreads), right from your kindle! When you link your kindle app to goodreads, it will automatically update your reading progress. Read on to learn how to link goodreads to kindle.
How to Link Goodreads to Kindle
Please note, these directions will work specifically for a kindle paperwhite goodreads sync, but they should be similar for different versions of kindle. Please check Amazon’s help center for more information. And now for the instructions:
- Tap the home icon at the top of your kindle screen
- Then the menu button (it’s three dots in a vertical line over on the right side of the screen)
- Settings
- My Account
- Social Networks
- Click on goodreads
- A dialogue box should pop up. Just follow those directions and you’re good to go!
Note: You should already have a goodreads account before attempting to do a goodreads kindle sync. If you need more info on creating a goodreads account, I have step by step directions in my goodreads ultimate guide.
Link Kindle to Facebook or Twitter
Another cool thing you can do with those same steps is connect your facebook or twitter account to your kindle. This allows you to share any of the passages you highlighted in the books you read. I chose not to link my facebook and twitter account to my kindle because I hardly ever talk about books on my personal accounts. But if you talk about books on facebook or twitter, or if you want to share quotes from your favorite books, you might love to link your accounts!
How does goodreads work with Kindle?
When goodreads was created way back in 2006, the mission was to help people find and share books they love. (source) Their number one priority was discoverability. In 2013, goodreads was acquired by Amazon and they did special coding magic (that’s a real thing) to allow a goodreads kindle integration. Fast forward to now, readers can use the power of both Amazon AND goodreads to discover huge lists of books similar to those you have already read and loved. It’s a powerhouse combination and one that I personally, have been extremely grateful for.
Use goodreads lists and recommendations to discover books. Also check out the personalized recommendations Amazon shows you on your home page. Those are often books very similar to what I’m currently reading!

Kindle Goodreads Cost
Ever wondered is goodreads on kindle free? Yes! Goodreads is completely free to use and enjoy. If you have a goodreads account, you can even download free samples and occasionally free books. I have all that information in my goodreads ultimate guide. If you don’t have a kindle, but you’re thinking about getting one, I highly recommend a kindle paperwhite. I’ve had mine for two years and it is amazing! 🙂

How to Update Reading Progress on Goodreads App
If you can’t figure out how to update your reading progress, never fear! You aren’t alone. Apparently this is confusing to lots of people, including me. I have step by step instructions with pictures that will make the process easy.
- Go to your goodreads homepage
- In the top right corner of the page, click on “currently reading”
- Under the book you want to update, click “update status”
- Type in the page number you’ve reached

My very favorite thing about goodreads is the personalized recommendations. The more you read and rate books, the more accurate the recommendations get!
You can also browse lists, follow authors (and ask them questions!), join book clubs, enter book giveaways, and more! I can’t recommend goodreads enough.
Why would you want a goodreads kindle integration?
There are many benefits to linking your goodreads and kindle accounts. Here are a few that might convince you to do it:
- Automatically update your reading progress
- Automatically post your reviews to both Amazon and goodreads
- Access goodreads right from your kindle (no app required!)
- See your updates, shelves, recommendations, and friends
- Get personalized recommendations from your goodreads account
But why would I even want a kindle?
If you haven’t noticed, I’m a huge fan of my kindle. I got one for Christmas two years ago and I can’t believe how many more books I have read since I got it. Yes, I know paperbacks and hardbacks are special. Yes, I know there is something magical about touching and, of course, smelling a book.
But kindles are convenient, dang it, and I love easy. I love that I can keep a bunch of books on one tiny device. It’s great that I can buy books and start reading them in my kindle instantaneously. I love that my arm doesn’t die of pain because I’ve been holding up a fifteen pound book for hours on end. And yes, that is a *completely* accurate weight. 🙂
I know a kindle is not for everyone, but if you care about compact storage, ability to instantly read newly purchased books, and weight of the “book” in your hands, then you’ll probably love a kindle.
Can I use goodreads without a kindle?
